The island of Murano
The diffusion of glass making in the Venetian lagoon has very ancient roots, but it was from the thirteenth century onward that it was concentrated on the island of Murano when, for safety reasons, the Republic ordered that all the glass furnaces in the city should be moved there.
Plunging into history, art and tradition, we enter the ancient glassworks that guard the secrets of glass making, handed down through the generations and still today fuelling the creation of true works of art.
After visiting an old glass factory and a workshop-museum we delve into the history of glass making and all its wonderful expressions. The highlight of the tour is a private guided visit to the Murano Glass Museum, which houses extraordinary masterpieces of glass making art spanning from the 14th to the 20th century.
