The thousand colours of Burano
Burano is famous for being one of the most colourful places in the world. Legend has it that in the past fishermen painted their houses in bright colours in order to recognize them from afar when they returned home from the sea.
A leisurely stroll through the quaint narrow streets, tiny squares and quays of Burano will disclose a romantic, charming little island where the slow pace of life, and sense of identity and community seem to have prevailed over time and space.
Looking down the alleys, we may see an elderly lady sitting in front of her house, intent on lace making. We will learn more about what was the island’s main claim to fame at the Lace Museum, housing the precious lace that were once a great symbol of wealth.
