The Southern Lagoon with “Sweet Molly”

Discover the southern Lagoon with “Sweet Molly”, this historic boat was built in 1938 in Sweden by Carl Gustav Pettersson , this historical boat combines pure elegance and beauty and is fully powered with a modern electric engine.

The Southern Lagoon is defined by the long stretching islands of Lido and Pellestrina on the seaside. During the day you will discover some of the most enchanting minor islands of the lagoon like Poveglia and Santo Spirito, that are abandoned today but have fascinating histories, or San Clemente and Isola delle Rose that  are nowadays exclusive luxury resorts.

The journey starts from Hotel Heureka and the cruise will take you to the island of San Lazzaro degli Armeni. This monastery is the birthplace of the Mechitarist order and during the centuries it has been one of the most important centers of Armenian culture.

The tour continues south along the Lido island, until the small village of Malamocco, one of the earliest settlements in the Lagoon of Venice. For lunch you will be delighted with typical Venetian specialties served on board. Heading back north, the journey takes you by the mysterious island of Poveglia, the island of San Spirito and San Clemente, to Giudecca, where you will visit the famous Redentore church, built by Palladio.

On the last destination of the tour you will discover the island of San Giorgio Maggiore” dominated by the famous basilica – another masterpiece of Palladio. The view from its bell tower will leave you breathless!

The return trip to Hotel Heureka will cruise you through the Sestriere di Castello and the Arsenale and back to Cannaregio.
